In the spring of 1987, seven million children suddenly disappeared in the U.S, not from their homes, but from tax forms. On April 15, the tax office changed the rules. Until then, taxpayers only had to write down their dependent children's name on the tax forms, but from April 15, they had to write down the Social Security number of each child. Suddenly, 7 million children disappeared -- at least from tax forms.
